Compassionate Support After Suicide Loss

Healing Conversations provides those who have lost a loved one to suicide with the opportunity for a compassionate, one-time meeting—by phone, virtually, or in person—with a trained volunteer who has walked a similar path of loss. This supportive connection offers a safe space to share, listen, and begin navigating the journey of grief with someone who truly understands. Whether the loss is recent or many years past, participants find comfort in knowing they are not alone in their experience.

The program pairs individuals with volunteers who reflect their own lived experiences, ensuring the support offered is both empathetic and meaningful. Through open conversation and shared understanding, Healing Conversations honors the unique ways grief is shaped by personal identity, culture, and community. To learn more or request a visit, you can complete a simple online form at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Healing Conversations page.

Hope Boxes

Soul Shop™ Hope Boxes are thoughtfully created care packages designed to provide comfort and encouragement.

Each box contains meaningful items, including:

  • Letters from others who have faced the loss of a loved one to suicide, offering words of empathy and hope.

  • A book to guide you through this difficult journey with wisdom and compassion.

  • A soft blanket, symbolizing warmth and support during times of grief.

  • And so much more—each box is lovingly curated with prayer and tender care.

While suicide loss can be particularly tragic, people still need to eat and sometimes during times of intense grief, basic acts of daily living can be very overwelming.  Our basic acts of comfort and care that we provide around other kinds of loss can be very appopriate in the aftermath of a suicide.  Providing home cooked meals, organized through websites like Meal Train, can be a way to let someone know you care while also offering them privacy during this challenging time.  https://www.mealtrain.com

Suicide loss can carry with it a unique of grief that is often best attended to by communities of people who have had similar experiences.

SOS Groups (Survivors of Suicide Loss) are often in communities and can be found by a simple Google search.  That said, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has curated a list of local support groups that are easy to search for and can be found here:  https://afsp.org/find-a-support-group/

Support Groups

This faith-based 8-week small group helps people learn how to walk with their grief (as opposed to getting over it) in order to help them move towards more vital living.  They see grieving as holy work, that the journey is unique for every person and that it is not meant to be traveled alone.  You can learn more about it here.
